Erica Babad, President. Erica Babad has been playing recorder since the age of six, when her father’s case of poison ivy provided a good time for him to give her an impromptu lesson. She took group lessons at the arts day camp at the Westchester County Center, and had the opportunity to play in small ensembles at summer camp as a teenager. At college in California, Erica was a member of the Collegium Musicum, where she enjoyed playing and performing in a larger consort with a greater mix of early instruments.
There was a long hiatus from recorder, during which Erica worked as a movement theater artist, performing and teaching puppetry, mime, and clowning nationally and internationally. She then became a teacher, and is currently Teacher-Director of the Infant Toddler Center at Riverdale Country School.
Shortly after she moved to Thornwood, she was excited to find a brochure for WRG in the Pleasantville Library, and is once again enjoying ensemble recorder playing with a wonderful group of people. She has two cats, and a very supportive husband and daughter!
Janet Kiel, Vice President. Janet has been playing recorder since around 1990 and taking lessons with Susan Iadone for at least 10 years. Previously, she played English handbells (20 + years) and has toyed around with piano and flute lessons for a few years. She claims her daughter is actually the musician in the family.
Elizabeth Sousa, Secretary. Elizabeth worked for BBC radio in London, producing chamber music and recital programs. She met the famous Carl Dolmetsch and family, as they were featured in a "Studio Portraits" program! She is a retired physician, with a lifelong love of music, especially mediaeval music.
Tina Cowles, Treasurer. Bio and information for Tina to follow.
Carol Scafati, Webmaster. Carol has been playing recorder for many, many years. It is her first and only instrument, having taken it up when she heard her 8-year-old niece play Mary Had a Little Lamb, thinking it would be a piece of cake (which it wasn't). She is still at it, totally enjoying every minute. She currently studies with Deborah Booth. For additional information, you can view Carol's website.
Karen Snowberg, Music Director. See Karen's photo and read about her on the Coaches page.
